& Training Schemes

There’s never been a better time to consider a career with Farol. As the agricultural and turf machinery business becomes more technologically advanced, utilising satellite navigation systems, Formula 1 transmission technology, computerised controls and advanced, fuel-efficient engines, the need for skilled people working in the industry becomes ever greater. It’s not just about the machines either. Sophisticated parts and service systems require the same skills too. The John Deere Dealer of Tomorrow is a challenging business, with a wide range of opportunities and exciting prospects for the right people. Whatever your interest, there is a role for you.

Engineering Apprenticeships

What is an engineering apprenticeship? Like all apprenticeships, the John Deere scheme combines training with paid employment, leading to nationally recognised and valued qualifications. Apprentices work at our dealership but also spend eight weeks each year at college – a dedicated John Deere Training Centre near Nottingham. You are supported by a designated Learning Adviser and by your team at Farol, gaining valuable workplace skills by undertaking practical tasks and experiencing real-life challenges. Every apprentice is provided with an individually tailored learning plan, with progress monitored by the Learning Adviser who makes regular visits to Farol for on-the-job assessment and guidance.

What Engineering Apprenticeships/Training Schemes do we offer?

We offer Apprenticeship/Trainee Technician schemes on both the Agricultural and Golf & Turf side of the business and are now taking registrations for our 2024, 2025 and 2026 intake!

Ag Technician

With the emphasis firmly on farm machinery, you will develop skills and proficiency in a wide range of technical areas, from routine maintenance and servicing through to complex component overhauls utilising the very latest John Deere diagnostic equipment.

Turf Technician

This turf engineering apprenticeship develops exactly the same skills as its agricultural equivalent, but with the focus more on machines used by golf courses, sports grounds, local authorities, landscapers and country estates.

John Deere Diploma

In addition to the John Deere engineering apprenticeship, we also run a unique Trainee Technician course called the “John Deere Diploma”. This bespoke course runs in a similar format to the John Deere Apprenticeship scheme (i.e. is mainly based in the workplace with 2 week blocks at college throughout the course) and leads to a Level 3 IMI Engineering Qualification just as the Apprenticeship does. However, the scheme is effectively a “fast track” course for the most able and leads to you becoming a fully qualified Technician over a 2 year period rather than the 3.5 year period that the Apprenticeship requires.

This course is perfect if you have previously studied or want to study a Level 2 or Level 3 course at college in a related field prior to joining us (such as Land Based or Automotive Engineering), or perhaps are remaining at school and complete A-Levels in Engineering or similar prior to starting your career.

If you have completed your GCSEs and are now at college OR studying for A-Levels and looking for your next step upon completion of your current courses, please get in touch! Or if you aren’t quite at stage age yet but know you want to follow this career path please drop us an email for further information!

As well as Engineering Apprenticeships, we also offer Parts Apprenticeships!

As a company John Deere is renowned not just for its machinery, but also for its outstanding parts and service support. The Parts Apprenticeship concentrates on how to manage John Deere’s sophisticated parts systems, run a profitable retail environment, merchandise goods effectively, and understand the value of John Deere products and the importance of selling on quality rather than on price.

How long does it last?

The apprenticeship/trainee programmes last for two to four years, depending on the course you choose. Most of your time is spent within the dealership where you learn on the job, but with the added benefit of some classroom and workshop tuition at the Training Centre.

Trainee Connected Support Advisors

We are always on the lookout for enthusiastic individuals to join our ever-growing Central Connected Support department. This department provides remote assistance to our customers through diagnostics, software updates, and remote machine health management as well as being an extension of our Service departments across the group. You will be an integral part of the team and will use our cutting-edge tools and technology to provide this central remote support to our customers. No experience is necessary as we will teach you everything you need to know, however an interest in the industry and the associated machinery/farming practices would be a bonus!
