Apprenticeships
& Training Schemes

Thereโ€™s never been a better time to consider a careerย with Farol.ย As the agricultural and turf machinery business becomes more technologically advanced, utilising satellite navigation systems, Formula 1 transmission technology, computerised controls and advanced, fuel-efficient engines, the need for skilled people working in the industry becomes ever greater. Itโ€™s not just about the machines either. Sophisticated parts and service systems require the same skills too. The John Deereย Dealer ofย Tomorrow is a challenging business, with a wide range of opportunities and exciting prospects for the right people. Whatever your interest, there is a role for you.

We offer Technician Training Schemes on both the Agricultural and Golf & Turf side of the business and are now takingย registrations for our 2024, 2025 and 2026 intake!

What Engineering Apprenticeships/Training Schemes do we offer?

At Farol we like to do things differently! In 2022 we launched our one of a kind โ€œJohn Deere Diplomaโ€ training scheme and are now recruiting for our third year of intakes! We are the only John Deere dealership in the UK to offer this bespoke course which runs in a similar format to the traditional John Deere Apprenticeship scheme (i.e. is mainly based in the workplace with 2 week blocks at college throughout the course) and leads to a Level 3 IMI Engineering Qualification just as the Apprenticeship does. However, the scheme is effectively a โ€œfast trackโ€ course for the most able/those with previous experience and leads to you becoming a fully qualified Technician over a 2 year period rather than the 3.5 – 4 year period that the Apprenticeship requires.

What are the entry requirements?

To ensure that those enrolled on the scheme can achieve the Diploma in the condensed timeframe, we ideally require candidates to have:

  • Prior achievement at college at Level 2 or above in an appropriate discipline, e.g. Land based Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Agriculture etc OR A โ€“ Levels in Maths/Engineering or similar
  • Prior achievement of Maths GCSE level 4 or above
  • Prior achievement of English Language GCSE Level 4 or above
  • Prior achievement of a Science GCSE Level 4 or above
  • Understanding and knowledge of the Agricultural/Golf & Turf Industries and the associated machinery with a genuine passion to work in these fields
  • Applicant must be a minimum 18 Years of age

In addition, you will be required to complete and pass a skills assessment with the training delivery team (Pro VQ).

If you have completed your GCSEs and are now at college studying Engineering or similar, OR studying for A-Levels and looking for your next step upon completion of your current courses, please get in touch! Or if you arenโ€™t quite at stage age yet but know you want to follow this career path in the future, please drop us an email for further information!

Unfortunately we no longer have any vacancies for the standard John Deere Technician Apprenticeship scheme.

What is the difference between an Ag and a Turf Technician?

Ag Technician

With the emphasis firmly on farm machinery, you will develop skills and proficiency in a wide range of technical areas, from routine maintenance and servicing through to complex component overhauls utilising the very latest John Deere diagnostic equipment.

Turf Technician

This turf engineering apprenticeship develops exactly the same skills as its agricultural equivalent, but with the focus more on machines used by golf courses, sports grounds, local authorities, landscapers and country estates.

How long does it last?

The John Deere Diploma scheme takes two years to complete. Most of your time is spentย within the dealershipย where you learn on the job, but with the added benefit of classroom and workshop tuition at college. The course starts in January each year however you would ideally join us the previous October to build up your knowledge of the company and role prior to starting at college.
