There’s never been a better time to build a career with Farol. As the agricultural and turf machinery industries become more advanced, the demand for skilled engineers and technicians continues to grow. From satellite navigation and fuel-efficient engines to Formula 1-inspired transmissions and cutting-edge diagnostic systems, today’s machinery requires forward-thinking individuals with a passion for technology and problem-solving. Whether you’re interested in working with tractors, turf equipment, or precision systems, Farol offers a clear pathway into the industry through our hands-on, accredited apprenticeship and training schemes.
We recommend candidates have a Level 2 qualification in Land-based Engineering, Agriculture, Automotive or a related subject or A-Levels in Maths, Engineering or Science. You’ll also need GCSEs in English Language, Maths, and Science at grade 4 (C) or above.
The course runs over two years, with most training completed on the job at your Farol dealership, supported by two-week blocks at college.
Yes. The John Deere Diploma is a fast-track alternative to the traditional apprenticeship, reducing the training time from 3.5-4 years to just two years. Ideal for candidates with prior experience or technical qualifications.
Agricultural Technicians work mainly with farm machinery such as tractors, sprayers and harvesters. Turf Technicians focus on golf and groundcare equipment used by sports venues, estates, and local authorities. Both roles develop the same core engineering skills.
Simply email our careers team and we’ll get back to you with further details about the course, the intake process, and how to get started.
At Farol we like to do things differently! In 2022 we launched our one of a kind “John Deere Diploma” training scheme and are now recruiting for our third year of intakes! We are the only John Deere dealership in the UK to offer this bespoke course which runs in a similar format to the traditional John Deere Apprenticeship scheme (i.e. is mainly based in the workplace with 2 week blocks at college throughout the course) and leads to a Level 3 IMI Engineering Qualification just as the Apprenticeship does. However, the scheme is effectively a “fast track” course for the most able/those with previous experience and leads to you becoming a fully qualified Technician over a 2 year period rather than the 3.5 – 4 year period that the Apprenticeship requires.
The John Deere Diploma is a fast-paced course, and we’re looking for motivated candidates with a strong technical foundation. Ideally, applicants will have already completed a Level 2 qualification in Land-based Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Automotive, or a related subject. Alternatively, A-Levels in Maths, Engineering, or Science are also desirable.
You’ll also need to have achieved:
GCSE Maths, English Language, and Science at Grade 4 (C) or above
A genuine interest in Agricultural or Turf machinery and how it works
A willingness to learn and complete a skills assessment with our training partner, ProVQ
If you’re currently studying or thinking about your next step after college or sixth form, contact us or get in touch early if you’re planning your future and want more information.
At Farol, we train both Agricultural Technicians and Turf Technicians, depending on your area of interest.
As an Agricultural Technician, you’ll work primarily with John Deere farm machinery, including tractors, sprayers, and harvesters. Gaining hands-on experience with diagnostics, servicing, and complex repairs using advanced John Deere equipment.
As a Turf Technician, you’ll develop similar engineering skills, but with a focus on machinery used by golf courses, sports venues, landscapers, and local authorities. From greens mowers to utility vehicles, you’ll work with highly specialised equipment in a wide variety of settings.
The John Deere Diploma is a two-year programme. Most of your time will be spent working at one of Farol’s dealerships, developing skills alongside experienced technicians. You’ll also attend college in two-week blocks, receiving structured tuition in the classroom and workshop. The course starts every January, but new recruits ideally join the business in October to begin hands-on learning and become familiar with the team and systems before college begins.
If you’re enthusiastic about machinery, driven to learn, and ready to kick-start your engineering career, we want to hear from you. Whether you’re applying for our next intake or planning ahead, please email us at careers@farol.co.uk for more information.
